Design Tip
: Drawing the outlines of your design before starting the paper will help bring your vision to life. It doesn’t have to be perfect. See what you want to include in the design‌ and look great.

01. Choose the right angle for your design

To get started, select your design type from the Conva Home‌page. These are set to the exact dimensions of each graphic for social media posts, flyers, or more. Or you can use custom sizes by searching for "custom sizes". You can choose from pixels, millimeters, or inches.

02. Select the background

Your design may have a background color or image.

Design Tip: Different colors tell different stories. Purple is associated with personality, orange is associated with activity and green images of nature. Think about which colors are best for your needs. To help you choose a color palette, try Conway's color combination tool. Of course, you can always use a white background. To select a color, use the color picker tool in the toolbar at the top of the editor.

Background photos

  • To use a photo as a background, first, add a grid. Once installed on the grid, photos can be resized, cropped, rotated, and layered.
  • Next, search for images or upload yours. Then drag it to your image grid: it will fit.
  • You can add filters to change the brightness, saturation, and resolution of the photo. This helps when layering text and elements.
  • Design Tip: You can add a background image or feature image to your design.

The background image supports the content message. If a lot is happening in this context, it is difficult to overlap things like text or images. When choosing a background image for your design, consider the structure of the composition. You can crop the images to find pockets of well-functioning texture - this will make any space or features in the image noisier.

The featured image becomes the centerpiece of your design: the image is elevated in visual sequence order. Use a single or split cell grid to implement intelligent feature images and help your content sing.

The following image grid is used to balance the visual scope of the design. The user's eye is ready for the photo.
